RESUMO

Reversible transitions between epithelial and mesenchymal cell states are a crucial form of epithelial plasticity for development and disease progression. Recent experimental data and mechanistic models showed multiple intermediate epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) states as well as trajectories of EMT underpinned by complex gene regulatory networks. In this review, we summarize recent progress in quantifying EMT and characterizing EMT paths with computational methods and quantitative experiments including omics-level measurements. We provide perspectives on how these studies can help relating fundamental cell biology to physiological and pathological outcomes of EMT.

INTRODUCTION: Epidemiological evidence suggests an association between CS and offspring metabolic syndrome (MetS), but whether a causal relationship exists is unknown. METHODS: In this study, timed-mated Wistar rat dams were randomly assigned to cesarean section (CS), vaginal delivery (VD), and surrogate groups. The offspring from both CS and VD groups were reared by surrogate dams until weaning, and weaned male offspring from both groups were randomly assigned to receive normal diet (ND) or high-fat/high-fructose diet (HFF) ad libitum for 39 weeks. RESULTS: By the end of study, CS-ND offspring gained 17.8% more weight than VD-ND offspring, while CS-HFF offspring gained 36.4% more weight than VD-HFF offspring. Compared with VD-ND offspring, CS-ND offspring tended to have increased triglycerides (0.27 mmol/l, 95% CI, 0.05 to 0.50), total cholesterol (0.30 mmol/l, -0.08 to 0.68), and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (0.30 mmol/l, -0.01 to 0.60); more pronounced differences were observed between CS-HFF and VD-HFF offspring in these indicators (triglyceride, 0.66 mmol/l, 0.35 to 0.97; total cholesterol, 0.46 mmol/l, 0.13 to 0.79; and FPG, 0.55 mmol/l, 0.13 to 0.98). CONCLUSIONS: CS offspring were more prone to adverse metabolic profile and HFF might exacerbate this condition, indicating the association between CS and MetS is likely to be causal. IMPACT: Whether the observed associations between CS and MetS in non-randomized human studies are causally relevant remains undetermined. Compared with vaginally born offspring rats, CS born offspring gained more body weight and tended to have compromised lipid profiles and abnormal insulin sensitivity, suggesting a causal relationship between CS and MetS that may be further amplified by a high-fat/high-fructose diet. Due to the high prevalence of CS births globally, greater clinical consideration must be given to the potential adverse effects of CS, and whether these risks should be made known to patients in clinical practice merits evaluation.

OBJECTIVE: Compare the clinical severity of second preeclampsia with the first preeclampsia. METHODS: This retrospective longitudinal cohort study was conducted in three teaching hospitals in Guangzhou, where there were a total of 296 405 deliveries between 2010 and 2021. Two consecutive singleton deliveries complicated with preeclampsia were included. Clinical features, laboratory results within 1 week before delivery, and maternal and neonatal outcomes of both deliveries were collected. Univariate analyses were made using paired Wilcoxon tests and McNemar tests. Multivariable logistic regression and generalized linear models were performed to assess the association of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes with second preeclampsia. RESULTS: A total of 151 women were included in the study. The mean maternal age was 28 and 33 years for the first and second deliveries, respectively. The proportion of preventive acetylsalicylic acid use was 4.6% for the first delivery and 15.2% for the second delivery. No significant differences were observed in terms of blood pressure on admission, gestational weeks of admission and delivery, application of perinatal antihypertensive agents, rates of preterm delivery, and severe features between the two occurrences. However, the rates of heart disease, edema, and admission to the ICU were lower, and hospital stays were shorter in the second preeclampsia compared with the first preeclampsia. Sensitivity analysis conducted among women who did not use preventive acetylsalicylic acid yielded similar results. After adjusting for potential confounding variables, the occurrence of second preeclampsia was associated with significantly decreased risks of heart disease, edema, complications, and admission to the NICU, with odds ratios ranging between 0.157 and 0.336. CONCLUSION: Contrary to expectations, the second preeclampsia did not exhibit worse manifestations or outcomes to the first occurrence. In fact, some clinical features and outcomes appeared to be better in the second preeclampsia.

RESUMO

TEMTIA X, the tenth symposium organized by the EMT international Association (TEMTIA) took place in Paris on November 7th-10th, 2022. Similarly to the previous meetings, it reviewed most recent aspects of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition, a cellular process involved during distinct stages of development, but also during wound healing and fibrosis to some level. EMT steps are likewise typically described with various extents during tumor cell progression and metastasis. The meeting emphasized the intermediate stages involved in the process and their potential physiological or pathological importance, taking advantage of the expansion of molecular methods at single cell level. It also introduced new descriptions of EMT occurrences during early embryogenesis. In addition, sessions explored how EMT reflects cell metabolism and how the process can mingle with immune response, particularly during tumor progression, providing new targets, that were discussed, among others, for cancer therapy. Finally, it introduced a new perception of EMT biological meaning based on an evolutionary perspective. The meeting integrated the TEMTIA general assembly , allowing general discussion about the future of the association, starting with the site of the next meeting, now decided to take place in Seattle (US), late 2024.

BACKGROUND: ADHD and developmental dyslexia (DD) frequently co-occur. However, it is unclear why some children with ADHD acquire DD while others do not. METHODS: A total of 830 children (including typically developing controls, ADHD only, DD only, and ADHD + DD groups) of two ages (younger: first-third grade; older: fourth-sixth grade) were assessed on measures of reading ability and reading-related skills. RESULTS: The clinical groups had different degrees of impairment in each reading-related skill. Regression results found that the four groups had different skills in predicting reading ability in younger and older grades. Especially, rapid automatized naming (RAN) was the only predictor of reading ability in children with ADHD only. CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights that RAN plays an important role in the reading development of children with ADHD only, reflecting the possible protective role of RAN in reading development.

The conserved GTPase Cdc42 is a major regulator of polarized growth in most eukaryotes. Cdc42 periodically cycles between active and inactive states at sites of polarized growth. These periodic cycles are caused by positive feedback and time-delayed negative feedback loops. In the bipolar yeast S. pombe, both growing ends must regulate Cdc42 activity. At each cell end, Cdc42 activity recruits the Pak1 kinase which prevents further Cdc42 activation thus establishing negative feedback. It is unclear how Cdc42 activation returns to the end after Pak1-dependent negative feedback. Using genetic and chemical perturbations, we find that disrupting branched actin-mediated endocytosis disables Cdc42 reactivation at the cell ends. With our experimental data and mathematical models, we show that endocytosis-dependent Pak1 removal from the cell ends allows the Cdc42 activator Scd1 to return to that end to enable reactivation of Cdc42. Moreover, we show that Pak1 elicits its own removal via activation of endocytosis. In agreement with these observations, our model and experimental data show that in each oscillatory cycle, Cdc42 activation increases followed by an increase in Pak1 recruitment at that end. These findings provide a deeper insight into the self-organization of Cdc42 regulation and reveal previously unknown feedback with endocytosis in the establishment of cell polarity.

BACKGROUND: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common allergic disease globally and its prevalence is increasing year by year. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence and risk factors of self-reported AR among the Chinese National Railway train crew in the China Railway Beijing Group.METHODS: This prospective questionnaire study surveyed 1511 randomly recruited train crewmembers from 20 cities in the China National Railway network, and 494 reported having AR. A structured questionnaire was tailored, designed, and delivered electronically to all subjects. Prevalence of and risk factors for AR were analyzed based on self-reported results.RESULTS: The prevalence of self-reported AR among train crewmembers was 32.6%. Among respondents, 86.03% worked in passenger cars and 64.6% reported having worse AR symptoms while on trains. AR frequencies were 40.15% perennially and 59.85% seasonally. Among the Total Nasal Symptoms Scores (TNSS), significant differences were found between rhinorrhea and sneezing and between nasal itching and sneezing. The Rhino-Conjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) showed significant correlations between all seven sections. TNSS was significantly associated with the RQLQ. Scores of both the TNSS and RQLQ showed that the severity of AR symptoms (rp = 0.103) and the impact on quality of life (rp = 0.113) correlated significantly with seniority.CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of self-reported AR among train crew working in passenger cars is higher than that of the general Chinese population. AIMS: This case series aimed to evaluate the effects of treatment for allergic rhinitis (AR) in AR-diagnosed children with previous diagnosis of tic disorders/attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders (TD/ADHD) but unresponsive to behavioral or medical treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between July 2016 and June 2021, children diagnosed with AR in our hospital were enrolled. All were diagnosed with TD/ADHD refractory to behavioral or medical treatment. The demography and clinical information were collected from medical records. The outcomes were visual analogue scale (VAS) for AR severity, Yale Comprehensive Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) for TD symptoms, and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Screening Scale (SNAP-IV) for ADHD symptoms. RESULTS: A total of 27 children (18 boys, 9 girls) were included, with a mean age 7.4 ± 2.9 years (3 - 17 years). They had undergone behavioral or medical treatment of TD/ADHD for 3.6 ± 1.9 years but without significant improvement in TD/ADHD symptoms. After 2-6 months of systematic treatment for AR, VAS was decreased to 0.4 ± 0.1 from 0.8 ± 0.2, YGTSS to 3.5 ± 0.7 from 6.8 ± 1.4, and SNAP-IV to 0.4 ± 0.1 from 0.6 ± 0.2 (all p < 0.001). No recurrence of TD/ADHD symptoms was reported during a mean follow-up of 2.4 ± 1.1 years (0.5 - 5 years). CONCLUSION: AR treatment improves TD/ADHD outcomes in children with difficult-to-treat TD/ADHD. In TD/ADHD children who are unresponsive to behavioral or drug treatment and have AR-related symptoms, AR examination and treatment are recommended for better prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Full-cohort and sibling-comparison designs have yielded inconsistent results about the impacts of caesarean delivery on offspring health outcomes, with the effect estimates from the latter being more likely directed towards the null value. We hypothesized that the seemingly conservative results obtained from the sibling-comparison design might be attributed to inadequate adjustment for non-shared confounders between siblings, particularly maternal age at delivery. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was first conducted. PubMed, Embase, and the Web of Science were searched from database inception to April 6, 2022. Included studies (1) examined the association of caesarean delivery, whether elective or emergency, with offspring health outcomes; (2) simultaneously conducted full-cohort and sibling-comparison analyses; and (3) reported adjusted effect estimates with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). No language restrictions were applied. Data were extracted by 2 reviewers independently. Three-level meta-analytic models were used to calculate the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs for caesarean versus vaginal delivery on multiple offspring health outcomes separately for full-cohort and sibling-comparison designs. Subgroup analyses were performed based on the method of adjustment for maternal age at delivery. A simulation study was then conducted. The simulated datasets were generated with some key parameters derived from the meta-analysis. RESULTS: Eighteen studies involving 21,854,828 individuals were included. The outcomes assessed included mental and behavioral disorders; endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases; asthma; cardiorespiratory fitness; and multiple sclerosis. The overall pooled OR for estimates from the full-cohort design was 1.14 (95% CI: 1.11 to 1.17), higher than that for estimates from the sibling-comparison design (OR = 1.08; 95% CI: 1.02 to 1.14). Stratified analyses showed that estimates from the sibling-comparison design varied considerably across studies using different methods to adjust for maternal age at delivery in multivariate analyses, while those from the full-cohort design were rather stable: in studies that did not adjust maternal age at delivery, the pooled OR of full-cohort vs. sibling-comparison design was 1.10 (95% CI: 0.99 to 1.22) vs. 1.06 (95% CI: 0.85 to 1.31), in studies adjusting it as a categorical variable, 1.15 (95% CI: 1.11 to 1.19) vs. 1.07 (95% CI: 1.00 to 1.15), and in studies adjusting it as a continuous variable, 1.12 (95% CI: 1.05 to 1.19) vs. 1.12 (95% CI: 0.98 to 1.29). The severe underestimation bias related to the inadequate adjustment of maternal age at delivery in sibling-comparison analyses was fully replicated in the simulation study. CONCLUSIONS: Sibling-comparison analyses may underestimate the association of caesarean delivery with multiple offspring health outcomes due to inadequate adjustment of non-shared confounders, such as maternal age at delivery. Thus, we should be cautious when interpreting the seemingly conservative results of sibling-comparison analyses in delivery-related studies.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of H+ /K+ ATPase in the proliferation of pepsin-induced vocal cord leukoplakia (VCL) cells. STUDY DESIGN: Translation research. SETTING: Affiliated Hospital of University. METHODS: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect pepsin, H+ /K+ ATPase (ATP4A and ATP4B subunits) in VCL cells with varying degrees of dysplasia. After primary cultures of VCL cells had been established, the effects of acidified pepsin on the proliferation, autophagy, and H+ /K+ -ATPase distribution of VCL cells were investigated. RESULTS: The levels of pepsin, ATP4A, and ATP4B were significantly higher in VCL tissue with moderate-to-severe dysplasia than in normal tissue (p < .05); these levels gradually increased according to dysplasia severity. The expression levels of ATP4A and ATP4B were significantly correlated with the amount of pepsin in VCL cells (p < .01). Acidified pepsin enhanced the levels of proliferation and autophagy in human VCL epithelial cells. The cloning- and autophagy-promoting effects of acidified pepsin on VCL cells were partially reversed by pantoprazole; these effects were completely blocked by the autophagy inhibitor chloroquine. Finally, acidified pepsin promoted the colocalization of H+ /K+ -ATPase and lysosomes in VCL cells; it also mediated lysosome acidification. CONCLUSION: Pepsin and H+ /K+ -ATPase may contribute to the progression of VCL. Specifically, acidified pepsin may regulate lysosome acidification by promoting lysosomal localization of H+ /K+ -ATPase.

Poor phonological awareness is associated with greater risk for reading disability. The underlying neural mechanism of such association may lie in the brain processing of phonological information. Lower amplitude of auditory mismatch negativity (MMN) has been associated with poor phonological awareness and with the presence of reading disability. The current study recorded auditory MMN to phoneme and lexical tone contrast with odd-ball paradigm and examined whether auditory MMN mediated the associations between phonological awareness and character reading ability through a three-year longitudinal study in 78 native Mandarin-speaking kindergarten children. Hierarchical linear regression and mediation analyses showed that the effect of phoneme awareness on the character reading ability was mediated by the phonemic MMN in young Chinese children. Findings underscore the key role of phonemic MMN as the underlying neurodevelopmental mechanism linking phoneme awareness and reading ability.

BACKGROUND: The lack of effective and accurate predictive indicators remains a major bottleneck for the improvement of the prognosis of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatitis B virus X (HBx) has been widely suggested as a critical pathogenic protein for HBV-driven liver carcinogenesis, while tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) infiltration is also closely related to the tumorigenesis and progression of HCC. However, few studies have determined whether combining HBx expression with TAM populations could increase the accuracy of prognostic prediction for HBV-related HCC. METHODS: The study cohort enrolling 251 patients with HBV-related HCC was randomly split into a training and a validation group (ratio 1:1). The expression levels of HBx and TAM marker CD68 in HCC samples were detected by immunohistochemistry. Kaplan-Meier curves, Cox regression and Harrell's concordance index (C-index) analysis were conducted to evaluate the prognostic significance of these indicators alone or in combination. RESULTS: The expression level of HBx was strongly correlated with CD68+ TAM infiltration in HCC tissues. Elevated HBx or CD68 expression indicated poorer overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) after hepatectomy, and both of them were independent risk factors for postoperative survival. Meanwhile, patients with both high HBx and CD68 levels had worst clinical outcomes. Moreover, integrating HBx and CD68 expression with clinical indicators (tumor size and micro-vascular invasion) showed the best prognostic potential with highest C-index value for survival predictivity, and this proposed model also performed better than several conventional classifications of HCC. CONCLUSION: Combining the expression of intratumoral HBx, CD68+ TAM population and clinical variables could enable better prognostication for HBV-related HCC after hepatectomy, thus providing novel insights into developing more effective clinical prediction model based on both molecular phenotypes and tumor-immune microenvironment.

The CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats)-Cas (CRISPR associated proteins) system is an adaptive immune system of bacteria and archaea against phages, plasmids and other exogenous genetic materials. The system uses a special RNA (CRISPR RNA, crRNA) guided endonuclease to cut the exogenous genetic materials complementary to crRNA, thus blocking the infection of exogenous nucleic acid. According to the composition of the effector complex, CRISPR-Cas system can be divided into two categories: class 1 (including type Ⅰ, Ⅳ, and Ⅲ) and class 2 (including type Ⅱ, Ⅴ, and Ⅵ). Several CRISPR-Cas systems have been found to have very strong ability to specifically target RNA editing, such as type Ⅵ CRISPR-Cas13 system and type Ⅲ CRISPR-Cas7-11 system. Recently, several systems have been widely used in the field of RNA editing, making them a powerful tool for gene editing. Understanding the composition, structure, molecular mechanism and potential application of RNA-targeting CRISPR-Cas systems will facilitate the mechanistic research of this system and provide new ideas for developing gene editing tools.

BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common inflammatory disease in otolaryngology, mainly manifested as nasal congestion, nasal discharge, facial pain/pressure, and smell disorder. CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), an important phenotype of CRS, has a high recurrence rate even after receiving corticosteroids and/or functional endoscopic sinus surgery. In recent years, clinicians have focused on the application of biological agents in CRSwNP. However, it has not reached a consensus on the timing and selection of biologics for the treatment of CRS so far. SUMMARY: We reviewed the previous studies of biologics in CRS and summarized the indications, contraindications, efficacy assessment, prognosis, and adverse effects of biologics. Also, we evaluated the treatment response and adverse reactions of dupilumab, omalizumab, and mepolizumab in the management of CRS and made recommendations. KEY MESSAGES: Dupilumab, omalizumab, and mepolizumab have been approved for the treatment of CRSwNP by the US Food and Drug Administration. Type 2 and eosinophilic inflammation, need for systemic steroids or contraindication to systemic steroids, significantly impaired quality of life, anosmia, and comorbid asthma are required for the use of biologics. Based on current evidence, dupilumab has the prominent advantage in improving quality of life and reducing the risk of comorbid asthma in CRSwNP among the approved monoclonal antibodies. Most patients tolerate biological agents well in general with few major or severe adverse effects. Biologics have provided more options for severe uncontrolled CRSwNP patients or patients who refuse to have surgery. In the future, more novel biologics will be assessed in high-quality clinical trials and applied clinically.

Substantial guidance is available on undergraduate quantitative training for biologists, including reports focused on biomedical science. Far less attention has been paid to the graduate curriculum and the particular challenges of the diversity of specialization within the life sciences. We propose an innovative approach to quantitative education that goes beyond recommendations of a course or set of courses or activities, derived from analysis of the expectations for students in particular programs. Due to the plethora of quantitative methods, it is infeasible to expect that biomedical PhD students can be exposed to more than a minority of the quantitative concepts and techniques employed in modern biology. We collected key recent papers suggested by the faculty in biomedical science programs, chosen to include important scientific contributions that the faculty consider appropriate for all students in the program to be able to read with confidence. The quantitative concepts and methods inherent in these papers were then analyzed and categorized to provide a rational basis for prioritization of those concepts to be emphasized in the education program. This novel approach to prioritization of quantitative skills and concepts provides an effective method to drive curricular focus based upon program-specific faculty input for science programs of all types. The results of our particular application to biomedical science training highlight the disconnect between typical undergraduate quantitative education for life science students, focused on continuous mathematics, and the concepts and skills in graphics, statistics, and discrete mathematics that arise from priorities established by biomedical science faculty. There was little reference in the key recent papers chosen by faculty to classic mathematical areas such as calculus which make up a large component of the formal undergraduate mathematics training of graduate students in biomedical areas.

Rett syndrome is characterized by an early period of typical development and then, regression of learned motor and speech skills in girls. Loss of MECP2 protein is thought to cause Rett syndrome phenotypes. The specific underlying mechanisms from typical developmental trajectory to regression features throughout life are unclear. Lack of established timelines to study the molecular, cellular, and behavioral features of regression in female mouse models is a major contributing factor. Due to random X-chromosome inactivation, female patients with Rett syndrome and female mouse models for Rett syndrome (Mecp2Heterozygous , Het) express a functional copy of wild-type MECP2 protein in approximately half of all cells. As MECP2 expression is regulated during early postnatal development and experience, we characterized the expression of wild-type MECP2 in the primary somatosensory cortex of female Het mice. Here, we report increased MECP2 levels in non-parvalbumin-positive neurons of 6-week-old adolescent Het relative to age-matched wild-type controls, while also displaying typical levels of perineuronal net expression in the barrel field subregion of the primary somatosensory cortex, mild tactile sensory perception deficits, and efficient pup retrieval behavior. In contrast, 12-week-old adult Het express MECP2 at levels similar to age-matched wild-type mice, show increased perineuronal net expression in the cortex, and display significant tactile sensory perception deficits. Thus, we have identified a set of behavioral metrics and the cellular substrates to study regression during a specific time in the female Het mouse model, which coincides with changes in wild-type MECP2 expression. We speculate that the precocious increase in MECP2 expression within specific cell types of adolescent Het may provide compensatory benefits at the behavioral level, while the inability to further increase MECP2 levels leads to regressive behavioral phenotypes over time.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive cancer recalcitrant to treatment, arising predominantly from epithelial pulmonary neuroendocrine (NE) cells. Intratumor heterogeneity plays critical roles in SCLC disease progression, metastasis, and treatment resistance. At least five transcriptional SCLC NE and non-NE cell subtypes were recently defined by gene expression signatures. Transition from NE to non-NE cell states and cooperation between subtypes within a tumor likely contribute to SCLC progression by mechanisms of adaptation to perturbations. Therefore, gene regulatory programs distinguishing SCLC subtypes or promoting transitions are of great interest. Here, we systematically analyze the relationship between SCLC NE/non-NE transition and epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT)-a well-studied cellular process contributing to cancer invasiveness and resistance-using multiple transcriptome datasets from SCLC mouse tumor models, human cancer cell lines, and tumor samples. The NE SCLC-A2 subtype maps to the epithelial state. In contrast, SCLC-A and SCLC-N (NE) map to a partial mesenchymal state (M1) that is distinct from the non-NE, partial mesenchymal state (M2). The correspondence between SCLC subtypes and the EMT program paves the way for further work to understand gene regulatory mechanisms of SCLC tumor plasticity with applicability to other cancer types.

The available data on the localization of transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-ß1), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), and platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) in the adult primate and human central nervous system (CNS) are limited and lack comprehensive and systematic information. This study aimed to investigate the cellular localization and distribution of TGF-ß1, GDNF, and PDGF-BB in the CNS of adult rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta). Seven adult rhesus macaques were included in the study. The protein levels of TGF-ß1, PDGF-BB, and GDNF in the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, hippocampus, and spinal cord were analyzed by western blotting. The expression and location of TGF-ß1, PDGF-BB, and GDNF in the brain and spinal cord was examined by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining, respectively. The mRNA expression of TGF-ß1, PDGF-BB, and GDNF was detected by in situ hybridization. The molecular weight of TGF-ß1, PDGF-BB, and GDNF in the homogenate of spinal cord was 25 KDa, 30 KDa, and 34 KDa, respectively. Immunolabeling revealed GDNF was ubiquitously distributed in the cerebral cortex, hippocampal formation, basal nuclei, thalamus, hypothalamus, brainstem, cerebellum, and spinal cord. TGF-ß1 was least distributed and found only in the medulla oblongata and spinal cord, and PDGF-BB expression was also limited and present only in the brainstem and spinal cord. Besides, TGF-ß1, PDGF-BB, and GDNF were localized in the astrocytes and microglia of spinal cord and hippocampus, and their expression was mainly found in the cytoplasm and primary dendrites. The mRNA of TGF-ß1, PDGF-BB, and GDNF was localized to neuronal subpopulations in the spinal cord and cerebellum. These findings suggest that TGF-ß1, GDNF and PDGF-BB may be associated with neuronal survival, neural regeneration and functional recovery in the CNS of adult rhesus macaques, providing the potential insights into the development or refinement of therapies based on these factors.

Meteorus pulchricornis is a preponderant parasitic wasp of various lepidopteran pests. The extensive application of broad-spectrum insecticides usually causes serious threats to the olfactory recognition of nontarget insects such as parasitoid wasps. However, the binding mechanism of odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) to insecticides in parasitoid wasps remains unknown. Herein, we find that the MpulOBP6 protein had a strong binding affinity to three insecticides (phoxim, chlorpyrifos, and chlorfenapyr). Results of computational simulations revealed that the hydrophobic interaction contributed by a mass of nonpolar amino acid residues was the primary driving force in the formation and stabilization of MpulOBP6-insecticide complexes. Among them, four residues (Met75, Val84, Phe121, and Pro122) and two residues (Val84 and Phe111) play an essential role in the binding of MpulOBP6 to phoxim and chlorfenapyr, respectively. Our findings could be instrumental to elucidate the effects of insecticide application toward the olfactory recognition of nontarget insects in the processes of agricultural production.
